This technical training course provides a comprehensive understanding of boiler venting principles, safety requirements, and application-specific solutions. Participants will gain the knowledge needed to correctly select, size, and install venting systems for a wide range of heating appliances, ensuring code compliance, safety, and long-term system performance.

Venting Basics: The purpose of venting, the combustion process, and the “combustion triangle.”

Products of Combustion: Understanding the byproducts of fuel burning appliances and their impact on vent design.

Draft Principles: Natural vs. mechanical draft, positive and negative pressure systems, and how draft impacts vent performance.

Appliance & Vent Categories: In-depth review of Categories I–IV, their operating pressures, temperature conditions, and venting requirements.

Venting Materials & Standards: Overview of UL and ULC standards, NFPA codes, and approved venting materials including stainless steel, masonry chimneys, and special gas vents.

Plastic Venting Considerations: Safety limitations of PVC/CPVC and the advantages of polypropylene for high-efficiency appliances.

Factory-Built Venting Systems: Advantages, installation efficiencies, and safety features compared to field-fabricated systems.

Design Best Practices: Sizing guidelines, condensation management for condensing appliances, clearances to combustibles, and minimizing installation complexity.
