Plumbing & Heating Technical Sales Specialist

Full-Time Position | NYC & Long Island Territory

Bonus + Commission Opportunities | Full Product Training Provided

Overview

Rathe Associates is seeking a driven, knowledgeable, and personable Plumbing & Heating Technical Sales Specialist to join our team. This is a full-time, field-based role focused entirely on engaging with plumbing and heating contractors across NYC and Long Island.

You’ll be on the road daily—visiting job sites, conducting product trainings, solving technical challenges, and building long-term relationships with our contractor base. This is not an inside sales or office support role. Instead, you’ll be hands-on with the trades, helping them succeed with our hydronic, domestic hot water, and HVAC solutions.

Your success will come from being out in the field—hosting trainings, assisting with system design, providing on-site support, and influencing product decisions. You’ll serve as both a trusted technical advisor and a sales professional, showcasing our lineup of premium manufacturers while helping contractors with real-world job site challenges.

As you grow, you may take on additional Product Champion responsibilities—becoming the lead expert on one of our key product lines and helping drive adoption through advanced training, technical content, and internal mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

Field Engagement & Sales Development

– Schedule and conduct regular job site visits with plumbing and heating contractors

– Deliver in-field product demonstrations, installation training, and support

– Assist with piping layouts, equipment selection, control strategies, and start-up support

– Identify sales opportunities through real-world conversations and technical guidance

– Represent Rathe Associates at counter days, trade events, and association meetings

Technical Design & Troubleshooting

– Provide on-site support for hydronic systems, domestic hot water, boilers, pumps, and controls

– Review and advise on piping schematics, control wiring, and installation challenges

– Propose efficient, contractor-friendly solutions to job site issues

– Serve as a go-to technical resource for your contractor network

Product Champion (Optional Advancement)

– Develop deep technical expertise on a specific product line

– Create content like quick-reference guides, how-to videos, and application notes

– Support internal training and be a mentor to the broader sales team

– Handle high-level technical questions and escalations on your assigned product

What We’re Looking For

– Hands-On Experience: 10+ years in plumbing/heating/HVAC (fieldwork, not just sales)

– Technical Confidence: Strong understanding of control wiring, pumps, boiler systems, and piping layouts

– Communication Skills: Clear, confident, and friendly—able to teach and influence contractors

– Self-Driven: Able to manage your own schedule, identify high-value accounts, and drive activity

– People-Person: Someone who’s easy to trust and enjoyable to work with—both at job sites and events

– Valid Driver’s License & Reliable Transportation

Compensation & Benefits

– Base salary + annual bonus + commission opportunities

– Full product training and ongoing technical development

– Supportive team environment with real growth opportunities
